The Department of Health has announced that women with PIP breast implants may have them removed without charge. The State will provide care through the National Treatment Purchase Fund and this will involve surgical consultation, radiology and removal of implants if this is deemed clinically necessary. There may be a reduced fee if the women wish to have new implants inserted. Here in Aesthetic Surgery Ireland, none of our surgeons have ever used PIP implants, nor have they been used in any of the hospitals in which we work. The Department has issued a New Guide for the public who may be considering cosmetic surgery. This has been developed in conjunction with the Irish Association Of Plastic Surgeons. It gives advice to existing and potential patients on important choices when choosing a surgeon, a clinic and a procedure. Read the Press Statement from the Department of Health.
