Breast augmentation using Macrolane® gel is designed to provide a non-surgical option for women who want to enhance their breast shape with limited volume increases which may last for approximately 12 months.

Macrolane® gel is designed to give the breasts a fullness and subtle reshaping and increase the breast size by approximately one cup. An advantage of breast augmentation using Macrolane® gel is that the patient can check how her breasts look and feel during the actual procedure and request changes if desired.

Macrolane® gel is a man made version of the substance your body produces to fill out skin tone and lubricate the joints. Your body will naturally biodegrade the gel overtime. This process is very gradual and is not noticeable on a day to day basis. Macrolane® gel was formulated to provide noticeable results for at least a year although results may vary for each individual patient.

 

 

What happens during the Treatment
As breast augmentation using Macrolane® is a non-surgical procedure which does not require a hospital stay and can be conducted with a local anaesthetic . During the treatment gel is injected using a special needle deep under the skin to add volume and support, leaving no unsightly scars.

 

What happens after the Treatment
You will be able to see the results immediately. The injected area will feel firm for a few days. After a week or so the breast will begin to feel softer and after a few weeks the breast will become soft and similar to breast tissue.
Shortly after the treatment is completed you can return to your normal routine.
You should avoid any activity that may put pressure on your breasts for the first few weeks after your procedure. Similarly you should avoid subjecting the treated area to extremes in temperature. Some redness, swelling, tenderness or pain is normal.
Please note that, within 4 - 6 weeks after the initial procedure, you may have to return for a second procedure to inject additional Macrolane® gel into your breasts.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. How long is the effect designed to last? The effect of Macrolane® gel is not permanent and is generally much shorter than augmentation using breast implants. The length of time the effect lasts may vary from individual to individual but in general the effect is designed to last approximately one year before the gel completely biodegrades.
2. What volume can be injected into my breasts? The volume of Macrolane® gel that can be injected into your breasts is limited: the volume change possible with Macrolane® gel is less than can be achieved with breast augmentation using implants. Your Surgeon will decide the optimum volume of gel to suit your particular requirements but generally the volume will be limited to 150mls for each breast while the increase in breast size is generally limited to one cup size.
3. Is Macrolane® gel approved for use in Ireland? Yes, the gel has received approval for CE Marking in the EU.
4. Who will perform this procedure in Aesthetic Surgery Ireland? One of our 5 Consultant Plastic Surgeons will perform this treatment and be available for the post treatment care.
5. Have clinical studies been conducted with Macrolane® gel? Yes, the safety and effectiveness of Macrolane® gel has been established in clinical studies and no serious side effects or reactions were encountered.
